Established in 2000, Coffee Shack is idyllically nestled on the beach where the Bomvu River meets the warm blue Indian Ocean. Coffee Shack has a reputation of being a fun, good-value Backpackers Lodge with excellent facilities and the most amazing, friendly local staff. The local Tshezi Community Trust has 30% share in Coffee Shack, and we are proudly accredited by Fair Trade Tourism (www.fairtrade.travel). We offer clean, safe, budget accommodation, and our bathroom facilities are excellent. If you’re looking for peace and quiet, there are traditional thatched huts (dorms, doubles and en-suite rooms) across the river. Our kitchen serves up scrumptious breakfasts (& of course great coffees) and 2-course dinners at very reasonable prices (There’s always a vegetarian option). If you prefer to self-cater, we have two well-equipped guest kitchens and the festive “Babalaza Bar”. We offer a variety of day trips every day, exploring the area and its cultures. Our specialties are social responsibility and surfing, you cannot beat our R70 for 2 hour surf lessons, or the 5 day Learn to Surf Package for only R3300, all inclusive. Our “Responsible Tourism” Package, immerses guests into the benefits and challenges of being a socially and environmentally responsible business and our journey to winning the WTM – Responsible Tourism 2017 awards – Africa. Coffee Shack does cater for small to medium sized groups and can put together custom experiences and packages for interested groups.
