This monastery, built in 1959, is a major pilgrimage site for Egyptian Coptic Christians. Aswan granite and marble were used to build the large cathedral. Skilled monk artisans created the interior's resplendent mosaic tile-work dome and the ornate wooden panel iconostasis that graces the interior. Behind the cathedral is the tomb of Pope Kyrillos VI, who founded the monastery.
