In its original state, topped by a bronze chariot, Volubilis' Triumphal Arch would have been quite a sight to behold. The marble arch was built in AD 217 in honour of Emperor Caracalla and his mother, Julia Domna. It was reconstructed in the 1930s and then modified again in the 1960s. The hillock to the east provides a splendid view over the entire site.
