About

Malilangwe Wildlife trust aims to preserve and restore the prevailing biodiversity in the Malilangwe area, while also empowering the Shangaan community through their community projects. Malilangwe Wildlife reserve borders Gonarezhou and is home to endangered elephant, buffalo, cheetah, and hyena and is another haven to the African wild dog and rhino. The Mopani tree woodlands house giraffe, zebra, impala and antelope and the reserve is built around Lake Malilangwe. The reserve is also a location of historical importance as in the Sandstone hills and caves is found San Rock art paintings, there are 82 known rock art sites dating back to 700 to 2000 years. Tourism activities at Malilangwe Wildlife Trust are guided safaris which include the San rock art sites, visits to a local Shangaan cultural village where visitors can immerse themselves in Shangaan culture and witness traditional practices and a ways of life which are still practiced to this day. The Kambako Living Museum’ tour is an experience to educate oneself on Shangaan bush-craft skills and see the art of basket weaving among many other craft activities
