About

This monument was built to honour the 2000-plus South African soldiers who fell during a five-day WWI battle. The ensemble’s elements include Alfred Turner’s sculptures of Castor and Pollux, representing the unity of British and Boer soldiers, Anton van Wouw’s statue of General Henry Lukin (who gave the order to advance on Delville Wood) and a WWI artillery gun.
